Vetter Park work slated for middle of the summer

Both baseball diamonds at Vetter Park in White Lake Township will see one more season of play this year.

The current plan for Vetter Park improvements allows for completing the upcoming baseball season before the township moves ahead on other park upgrades.

One of these improvements is consolidating the two small baseball fields into one big field, which will be large enough to be used by an adult softball team.

However, White Lake officials wanted to wait until the end of baseball season before starting work on the improvements.

“We wanted to allow people to get through this baseball season because there is always interest in it,” said Jason Iacoangeli of the White Lake Planning Department. “So we decided to wait until the middle of summer.”

Besides consolidating the two fields, there are also plans to install an irrigation system and build a shelter for the park’s well, in addition to several maintenance projects.

While there isn’t certainty that work on the projects will begin in July, Iacoangeli remains confident that will occur.

“Problems could come up, what with the economy and gas prices, but I’m 99.9 percent sure that the improvements should go ahead. Everything is in place,” he said.
