Short-handed Kettering downed by John Glenn

Waterford Kettering fell in its regular season finale, 49-34, at home to Westland John Glenn on Tuesday, March 2.

“We played short-handed due to some school attendance issues,” said Kettering Head Coach Brian Tass. “It was a 5 to 10 point game most of the night, as John Glenn hit a big shot every time we would cut the lead to seven. We handled the ball fairly well and made some effective adjustments defensively. With guys that normally don’t play much and a freshman we brought up for the game, we out-rebounded them and did some very nice things.”

Brett Hoffman led the Captains (9-11) with 19 points and 10 rebounds in the loss to the Rockets.

“I am proud of those guys for battling the way they did,” Tass said. “Had we shot a little better, we may have had a better chance to actually win.”

Kettering took on Auburn Hills Avondale in a first-round game in the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Class A district tournament at Troy Athens on Tuesday, March 7 after press time.

The winner will face Waterford Mott tonight, Wednesday, March 9 for the right to play in the district final on Friday, Feb. 11.
