Several lakes area grapplers make it to MHSAA finals

The lakes area’s best wrestlers were on display at the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Individual Wrestling Finals at the Palace of Auburn Hills from Thursday, March 3 to Saturday, March 5.

In the 103-pound class, Walled Lake Northern’s Andrew Hahnenberg fell to Shayne Wireman of Holt by a technical fall, 17-0, in the first round.

In the 130-pound class, West Bloomfield’s Anthony Thompson suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss to Hudsonville’s Marcos Diaz by a pinfall in overtime, in a first-round match.

In the 145-pound class, West Bloomfield’s Avery Hasenauer lost 15-4 to Jared Zimmerman of Hudsonville in the first round.

In the 189-pound class, Walled Lake Central’s Charles Sovel suffered a 4-2 defeat to Anthony Abro of Canton in the first round.

In the 215-pound class, Huron Valley Lakeland’s Alex Sokoll fell 15-2 to Ben Dominguez of Southgate Anderson.
