Waterford Township police are investigating a suspicious incident in which a man reportedly attempted to enter a home under the guise of working for the Michigan Department of Labor, Energy and Economic Growth.
Officers responded to the 100 block of Crescent Road on Tuesday, March 1 after the resident contacted police stating that a black male identified himself as an employee of the state government. The subject told the resident he worked for the Energy Department and was required to conduct a home energy inspection.
When the resident questioned the subject, the man became defensive and asked the homeowner if he would be home the following day, indicating he would return. The subject left when the resident refused to allow him entry.
The subject is described as standing 5-feet-11-inches, 230 pounds, wearing an orange vest and an identification card around his neck.
Police contacted the state Department of Labor, Energy and Economic Growth, which oversees energy issues in Michigan, and verified it didn’t have anyone going door-to-door in the area and department representatives wouldn’t show up at a home unannounced.
Police didn’t locate the subject after canvassing the area.
Any information on the incident can be forwarded to the Waterford Police Department at 248-674-0351.
