Our Lady ends regular season with a defeat

Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes traveled north on Tuesday, March 1 and lost to Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart, 60-50, in the Lakers’ regular season finale.

Sacred Heart’s victory came on the same night the school honored its football team for winning the Division 8 state championship last November, and the home team didn’t let the football players or their fans down.

The Lakers (12-7) trailed 12-8 in the first quarter and 27-19 at halftime, as they weren’t able to halt Sacred Heart’s offense enough to mount a comeback.

Austin Karbowksi had 22 points to lead Our Lady. Garrett Ross was held to 8 points.

Our Lady has a first-round bye in the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) district tournament and will face the Frankel Jewish Academy of West Bloomfield tonight, Wednesday, March 9 at Clarkston Everest Collegiate.

The winner will face either Auburn Hills Christian or host Everest Collegiate in the district final on Friday, Feb. 11.

“We just have to work hard, put more effort into our defense and move ahead. It’s a new season now,” said Our Lady Head Coach Sean Wightman. “We have to maintain our composure, get more production from Ross and Karbowski, and the others have to do their jobs.”
