Lakes area skiiers fare well in state finals in Marquette

Walled Lake Central and Walled Lake Northern finished fourth and sixth, respectively, at the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Division 1 girls state skiing finals at Marquette Mountain on Monday, Feb. 28.

The team championship was won by Bloomfield Hills Marian.

The lakes area’s standout of the day was Walled Lake Central’s Mallory Slicker, who finished sixth in the giant slalom with a total time of 1:01.68, and fifth in the slalom with a total time of 1:19.70.

Walled Lake Northern’s Kelsey Young finished 17th in the giant slalom with a total time of 1:04.04, and 15th in the slalom with a total time of 1:22.74.

Northern’s Emily Clark took 20th in the giant slalom with a time of 1:04.61, and 16th in the slalom with a time of 1:22.81.

Central’s Taylor Krumm finished 22nd in the giant slalom with a time of 1:05, and 20th in the slalom with a time of 1:24; while her teammate, Hannah Brassel, finished 18th in the slalom with a time of 1:23.47.
