Area teams vying for MHSAA district crown this week

The lakes area’s Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA) teams will be in action in the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) district tournament that begins this week.

The district to watch will be the Huron Valley Lakeland district, which has four lakes area teams involved. Rivals Huron Valley Milford and Lakeland played on Monday, March 7 after press time, with the winner scheduled to face Walled Lake Northern tonight, Wednesday, March 9.

Meanwhile, KLAA North Division champion Walled Lake Central has a first-round bye and will face either Howell or Hartland tonight, Wednesday, March 7.

The district final is on Friday, March 11.

On Thursday, March 3, Lakeland defeated Livonia Franklin, 50-22, while Northern defeated Plymouth, 64-61. Central fell to Northville, 35-34, and Milford defeated Salem, 55-54.

Meanwhile, Walled Lake Western will be in the Farmington district and played against host Farmington on Monday, March 7, after press time, with the winner facing Orchard Lake St. Mary’s tonight, Wednesday, March 9.

Western defeated Wayne, 58-52, on March 3 in its season finale.

Waterford Mott will face either Auburn Hills Avondale or Waterford Kettering tonight, Wednesday, March 9 at Troy Athens after defeating Livonia Churchill, 38-35, on March 3.
