The lakes area’s best high school bowlers were in action last weekend at the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) state finals.
At the Division 1 boys team finals in Battle Creek on Friday, March 4, Walled Lake Central fell in the quarter-finals to Wayne Memorial, 1,218-1,090; while Huron Valley Lakeland finished 11th.
In the Division 1 girls team finals that day, Walled Lake Central finished in ninth-place, while Lakeland came in 12th.
In the Division 1 boys singles finals on Saturday, March 5, Waterford Mott’s Zachery Green finished in 34th-place with a total score of 1,062, while Lakeland’s Jake Pelc came in 44th with a final score of 1,047.
Nathan Vader of Walled Lake Northern finished 53rd with a total of 995, while Alex Carley of Walled Lake Western finished 55th with a score of 975.
In the Division 1 girls singles finals, Waterford Kettering’s Brittney Antonelli earned the top seed in the qualifying round with a total of 1,313, but was defeated by Rachel Young of Clinton Township Chippewa Valley in the quarter-finals, 372-360.
Haley Hyseel of Walled Lake Central finished 28th with a total of 1,029, while her teammate, Brianni Palarchio, finished 41st with a total of 992.
Kettering’s Autumn Townsend finished 42nd with a total of 988, while Mott’s Talia Harden was 58th with 915.
