West Bloomfield’s hopes of winning the Oakland Activities Association (OAA) Red Division title were dealt a blow with a 71-62 loss at home to Pontiac on Thursday, Feb. 24.
The loss dropped the Lakers (12-6) into a second-place tie with Southfield at 9-3, as each team trails first-place Clarkston by a half-game.
West Bloomfield traveled to Clarkston on Tuesday, March 1 after press time, needing a win in order to have a chance of at least a share of the league title.
The Feb. 24 game against Pontiac was evenly matched throughout, as the score was tied at 54-54 in the fourth quarter before the Phoenix pulled away with a 10-2 run.
Spencer Parker led the Lakers with 26 points. Nick Leventis chipped in with 10 points.
Pontiac’s Anthony Adams had 22 points, as the Phoenix improved to 10-6 and 7-4 in the OAA Red.
West Bloomfield will play at Farmington Hills Harrison tomorrow, Thursday, March 3 in the regular season finale before taking on North Farmington in a Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) district tournament game at Farmington on Monday, March 7.
