Five arrested in melee at bar in Walled Lake

Several people were arrested for participating in a fight at the Bayside Grille in Walled Lake on Sunday, Feb. 20, including a father and son.

Police officers were dispatched to the bar, located at 142 E. Walled Lake Drive, to assist security personnel who were fighting with subjects on the outside patio. One of the bar employees said that one of the subjects struck him in the face with an unknown object, triggering the brawl that involved between 10 and 15 people.

Upon arriving on the scene, police officers observed one subject being slammed to the ground while others pummeled him. As police tried to get the crowd under control, another subject kicked the downed person in the face. The injured person was later identified as one of the instigators of the scuffle and arrested. His son was also arrested for assault and battery.

According to police reports, the son, together with a woman who was lodged pending sobriety, started the fight. While being held at the Wixom Police Department, they reportedly confessed to the assault on video tape.

During the incident, Wixom police and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department arrived on the scene as back up and reportedly continued to encounter opposition. One subject allegedly refused to desist and adamantly refused to listen to police commands. He allegedly hurled obscenities at officers who threatened to use a Taser on him if he did not comply; however, police were finally able to handcuff the subject, who was then arrested.

Each subject was subdued, placed into patrol cars and carted away.

In all, five people were arrested, four of whom were issued citations for disorderly conduct and one for assault and battery.
