After 8-1 drubbing by Mott, Lakers respond with a 'W'

Waterford Kettering and West Bloomfield clashed on Friday, Feb. 25 with the Captains prevailing, 8-1.

Zach Zimmerman finished with four goals and two assists for the Captains (13-7-4), while Nick Murphy scored his 40th goal of the season.

Austin Carpenter, Brandon Lopez and Ian Nolan also each scored a goal for Kettering.

Jacob Charlip scored West Bloomfield’s (13-10-1) only goal.

However, the Lakers responded on Saturday, Feb. 26 with a 6-2 victory over Bloomfield United to finish in second-place in the Oakland Activities Association (OAA) White Division (19 points) behind division champion Oxford (20 points).

Dylan Kame scored four goals for the Lakers, including three on the power play, while Zach Rogow and Evan Paul also scored on the power play for West Bloomfield.

Bryan Cornfield had 20 saves in net for the Lakers, who played Livonia Stevenson in a pre-regional playoff game at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Ice Arena on Monday, Feb. 28, after press time.

The winner will play either St. Mary’s or North Farmington tonight, Wednesday, March 2, in the pre-regional final.

The regional final is scheduled for Saturday, March 5 at Eddie Edgar Arena in Livonia.
