Optimist Club's $3K donation to benefit 14 schools

The Lakes Area Optimist Club recently made a $3,000 donation to the Walled Lake Consolidated School District’s 14 elementary schools. Each school received funds averaging $250 for their education and recess programs.

“The generosity of the Lakes Area Optimist Club demonstrates the community’s commitment to the Walled Lake Schools’ students. We want our students’ lives to be balanced with learning opportunities in the classroom and outdoors where minds and bodies can be refreshed,” Superintendent Ken Gutman stated in a press release.

The proceeds were donated from the Optimist Club’s inaugural Run with Attitude 5K and 1 mile run, which took place in September in Commerce Township. “We are very pleased to direct the proceeds from this race to the Walled Lake Consolidated School District,” said Lakes Area Optimist Club President Denise Finnerty in a press release. “Our club feels that by providing new sports and recess equipment we reinforce the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle, which is important to bringing out the best in kids.”
