West Bloomfield can almost taste the Oakland Activities Association (OAA) Red Division title, as the Lakers scored two big wins last week and have three regular season games remaining.
The Lakers (12-4 overall, 9-2 in the OAA Red) began the week with a 62-44 victory at home over Oak Park on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
The Lakers led 27-19 at halftime and outscored Oak Park, 33-25, in the second half to pull out the victory.
Spencer Parker continued his strong play as he scored 19 points, while Darryn Byrd scored 14 and Jordan Evans had 10.
West Bloomfield then traveled to face Southfield, which was tied for the lead in the OAA Red, on Saturday, Feb. 19 and held on to defeat the Bluejays, 50-46.
The Lakers trailed 18-13 at the end of the first quarter before outscoring Southfield 15-6 in the second quarter to take a 28-24 lead at halftime.
Southfield (11-5, 8-3 ) answered with a 17-10 run in the third quarter to take a 41-38 lead heading into the final quarter.
The Lakers closed the game out with a 12-4 run in the fourth quarter to score a big win on the road against a fellow contender in the OAA Red.
On Saturday, it was Nick Leventis taking charge for West Bloomfield, as he scored 18 points.
The Lakers are now tied with Clarkston (11-5, 8-2) for the OAA Red Division lead. Those teams are scheduled to meet at Clarkston on Tuesday, March 1.
In the meantime, the Lakers will be challenged by Pontiac at home on Thursday, Feb. 24 in their regular season home finale.
