Lakeland tankers win KLAA North meet, set records

Huron Valley Lakeland took first-place at the Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA) North Division Championship meet held on Saturday, Feb. 18 and Sunday, Feb. 19 at Lakeland.

The Eagles finished with 608 points, while Walled Lake Northern took the runner-up spot with 585 points. Walled Lake Central finished with 391 points, while Walled Lake Western had 300 and Waterford Unified had 261.

Five division meet records were broken by Lakeland swimmers during the meet, including the 200 Medley Relay record, as Lakeland’s Ryan Johnson, David Patawaran, Leighton Christie and Tony Cipponeri finished with a time of 1:42.52, which also marked a new Lakeland pool record.

Those same four swimmers also set a meet record and Lakeland pool record in the 400 freestyle relay event, with a time of 3:21.97.

Cipponeri also finished with meet record times in the 50 Freestyle (22.26 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (48.98 seconds, a Lakeland pool record).

Johnson also set a meet record in the 500 freestyle (5:00.60) and set a new Lakeland school record in the 200 freestyle (1:49.50).

The KLAA Lakes Conference meet will be held this weekend at Waterford Kettering, on Feb. 25 and 26.

    WLN came in 4th in the KLAA Conference Meet, beating Lakeland. Evan Darbyshire had 3 firsts and a 2nd place in the meet, including setting a KLAA Conference record in the 100free.
