Orchard Lake St. Mary’s played in a triple-overtime classic and defeated Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, 77-72, in a Detroit Catholic League A-B Division quarter-final game on Saturday, Feb. 19 at Bloomfield Hills Marian.
“It’s just a great win, and hopefully it catapults us forward in the playoffs,” said St. Mary’s Head Coach George Porritt.
Allen Robinson led St. Mary’s (9-7) with 33 points, while Justin Barrows had 21.
The Eaglets will next play in a Catholic League A-B Division semi-final game tonight, Wednesday, Feb. 23, against Detroit Jesuit at Marian. The winner will advance to the Catholic League A-B Division Championship Game at Calihan Hall on the campus of Detroit Mercy on Sunday, Feb. 27.
Pontiac Notre Dame Prep fell to 14-3.
St. Mary’s began the week by hosting Detroit Country Day in its annual meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 16, and fell to the Yellow Jackets, 59-41.
The Eaglets fell behind 14-4 at the end of the first quarter and trailed 30-17 at halftime.
St. Mary’s was outscored 29-24 in the second half as Country Day took the Vorhees Trophy, which has been awarded annually since 2002 to the winner of the St. Mary’s-Country Day game, for the third consecutive season.
Barrows led St. Mary’s with 16 points. Robinson had 12.
Jodan Price scored 16 points for Country Day (15-2).
