One man is dead and another is hospitalized in stable condition after both were struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Williams Lake Road just north of Cooley Lake Road in White Lake Township at about 8:49 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10.
Jeffrey Vanlandugt, 41, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital after the accident.
The other victim, 49-year-old Tracy Gougeon, was taken to a hospital and remains in stable condition, according to Lieutenant Adam Kline of the White Lake Police Department.
The two men were walking southbound on Williams Lake Road after their vehicle had either broken down or had run out of gas. The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrians told police that he did not see the pair until he was about 2 feet away from them. The man and his wife, who was following behind in another vehicle, stopped and rendered aid to the two men until authorities arrived.
The case remains under investigation, but police state they don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.
