Mavs defeated in final two KLAA division contests

Huron Valley Milford fell in its final two Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA) West Division games last week to finish with a 2-8 division record.

The Mavericks began the week with a 54-48 loss at home to Pinckney on Tuesday, Feb. 8.

Milford trailed 31-17 at halftime thanks to hot shooting by the Pirates, including five 3-pointers. The Mavericks held Pinckney to only five field goals in the second half and outscored the Pirates 30-23, but it was not enough to complete a comeback.

Lindsey Bandyk had 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal; while Michelle Tierney had 10 points, 3 rebounds and 1 steal.

Milford then traveled to Grand Blanc on Friday, Feb. 11 and left defeated by the Bobcats, 53-42.

“The main difference in the game was the way Grand Blanc capitalized on the perimeter,” said Milford Head Coach Jennifer VanGoethem. “Obviously by us focusing on the posts, we left the perimeter exposed, and credit goes to Grand Blanc for knocking down their shots.”

Bandyk led Milford with 17 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist, while Lauren Smith scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Grand Blanc (14-2) shared the KLAA West title with Hartland with 9-1 division records.

Milford hosted Walled Lake Western on Tuesday, Feb. 15 after press time and will travel to Walled Lake Northern on Friday, Feb. 18.
