Division champs Mott split pair of games at tourney

Waterford Mott split two games at the Michigan Public High School Hockey Invitational Showcase at the Chelsea Arctic Coliseum last week, but can celebrate the fact that it is the Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA) North Division champion.

The Corsairs (15-5, 9-2 KLAA North, 18 points) began the week with a 5-4 loss to Plymouth on Thursday, Feb. 10.

The score was tied at 2-2 at the first intermission before Plymouth scored 2 goals in the second period to take a 4-2 lead. Mott scored 2 goals to Plymouth’s 1 in the third period, but it was not enough.

Colin Larkin led Mott with 2 goals and an assist while Max Vancil had a goal and an assist and Austin Sereno had a goal.

Mott was outshot by Plymouth 26-25 as Scott Furton had 10 saves and Myles Grix had 11 saves in next for Mott.

The Corsairs then responded to the loss with a dominating 10-3 victory over Oxford on Saturday, Feb. 12.

Mott led 4-2 at the first intermission before scoring 2 goals in the second period and 4 more in the third.

Emmett Smith and Larkin each had a hat trick while Scott Cuthrell had a goal and three assists and JD Clemence had a goal and two assists.

Mott outshot Oxford 35-20 and Furton had 11 saves in net for the Corsairs, who are scheduled to play at Pinckney tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 17.
