Arson suspected in fire at local lumber yard

The Highland Township Fire Department, along with Oakland County Sheriff’s Department fire investigators, are investigating an outdoor fire that occurred at Iverson’s Lumber Yard on North Milford Road at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 13.

A pallet of wood siding was on fire when Highland firefighters arrived at the scene. The fire was contained and didn’t spread anywhere else. However, the pallet of siding was estimated to be worth about $5,000.

The business was closed at the time of the fire, and there was no gas or electricity lines found near the burning pallet. As there was no discernible reason for the pallet to catch fire, the blaze is believed to be a case of arson.

The case remains under investigation.
