Wednesday, Feb. 2 marked National Signing Day, when high school athletes make their college commitments public, and some of the lakes area’s best student-athletes made their intentions known.
Standout offensive lineman Bryan Bell of Walled Lake Central will be taking his talents to Saginaw Valley State this fall. Bell won numerous honors as he helped the Vikings to their best football season in school history last fall, as they won KLAA North and Lakes Conference titles before advancing all the way to the Division 2 state semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Huron Valley Milford quarterback Luke Johnson has committed to the University of Dayton. Johnson passed for 2,012 yards and 22 touchdowns, and averaged 251 yards a game for the Mavericks.
As for the Division 3 state runner-up, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, wide receiver/defensive back Allen Robinson will be joining his former teammate, Robert Bolden, at Penn State University; while Thomas Sellers will stay in Michigan as he heads west to Grand Valley State.
