Waterford Kettering claimed its second victory of the season over rival Waterford Mott, 70-39, at home on Friday, Feb. 4 to remain undefeated and in first-place in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA) North Division.
Kettering (13-0 overall, 7-0 in the KLAA North) holds a half-game lead over Huron Valley Lakeland and was scheduled to host the Eagles on Monday, Feb. 7 after press time. The Captains’ game on Tuesday, Feb. 1 was postponed due to inclement weather.
Against the rival Corsairs last Friday, Kettering led 14-10 at the end of the first quarter before going on a 15-7 run in the second quarter to take a 29-17 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Captains were just getting warmed up as they blitzed Mott with a 21-6 run in the third quarter and outscored the Corsairs 20-16 in the fourth to pull away.
Allison Bicknell led Kettering with 11 points, while Erica Schwartz had 10 and Hannah Huff scored 9.
Gabby Thomas had 10 points to lead Mott (3-10, 3-4), while Rachael Waynick and Lauren Hung each scored 7 points.
Mott began the week with a 49-32 loss at home to Pontiac in a non-conference game on Monday, Jan. 31.
The Corsairs fell behind 17-2 in the first quarter and couldn’t recover.
Breonna House had 18 points for Mott, who hosted Walled Lake Central on Tuesday, Feb. 8 after press time and will travel to Huron Valley Lakeland on Friday, Feb. 11.
As for the Captains, they played at Walled Lake Northern on Tuesday, Feb. 8 and will finish its KLAA North schedule by hosting Walled Lake Central on Friday, Feb. 11.
