Huron Valley Lakeland picked up two wins last week to move back over the .500 mark.
Lakeland (8-7-3 overall, 4-4-1 with 9 points in the KLAA North) notched a 4-0 shutout victory over Fenton at Lakeland Ice Arena on Friday, Feb. 4.
After Kyle Zunich scored for the Eagles in the first period, Lakeland picked up three goals courtesy of Jordan Blanzy, Sam Brooks and Anthony Kobak.
Lakeland outshot Fenton, 29-21, and Trevor Kalinowski recorded the shutout in net for the Eagles.
“We had a good second period. We got a lot of traffic in front of their goalie,” said Lakeland Head Coach Tim Ronayne. “We had good individual efforts from certain players, but we need everyone to get on the same page.
“Our goalie, Kalinowski, played well while earning the shutout. He didn’t let them open the door,” Ronayne said.
Lakeland followed up with a 3-1 victory over Grand Blanc at the Ice Mountain Arena in Burton on Saturday, Feb. 5.
Evan Ronayne scored Lakeland’s first goal at the 13:42 mark of the first period off an assist from Zunich.
Blanzy followed up with a power-play goal 31 seconds later and added a second power-play goal with 21 seconds left in the second period.
“We capitalized on our opportunities,” Coach Ronayne said. “Our power play looked good today combined with the strong play from Blanzy, Ronayne, and Zunich,
“Mitch Leist played a strong game, facing more shots than Grand Blanc’s goalie,” he added. “That’s what you need from your goalie.”
Leist made 23 saves in net for the Eagles, who will play at the MPHSHI Showcase at Chelsea this week beginning tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 10.
