District picks Les to replace Motz in administrative role

Teri Les was chosen last week to be the new assistant superintendent for business services in the Walled Lake Consolidated School District.

Sandra Motz, the school district’s former assistant superintendent for business services, retired on Monday, Jan. 31 after working 19 years with the district.

The Walled Lake Schools Board of Education officially approved Les’ appointment at a Thursday, Feb. 3 board meeting.

Les has worked with the district the past nine years as its finance manager. Prior to that, she worked with the auditing firm of Plante Moran for nine years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Michigan State University and is also a certified public accountant.

While working for the Walled Lake district, Les has been involved in preparing documents for budgets and financial projections, as well as assisting in the analysis of various budget scenarios. The school board also believes her knowledge of the district’s internal processes will be an asset.

“Teri’s demonstrated expertise in accounting, school finance and her critical knowledge of the district’s budget, processes and challenges will be essential for Walled Lake Schools charting a course to make additional reductions while maintaining the excellent educational opportunities for our students,” Superintendent Kenneth Gutman stated in a press release.

Walled lake community members should ask themselves why after 19 years did your finance person (Asst Superintendent of Business Services) retire? Lake Orion schools is struggling to clean up the mess that our former superintendent left for us when he took the job in your district. My suggestion would be to keep a very close eye on what is happening in your central office now. Do not be fooled by the smile!! Good luck to you all!!
