The Walled Lake Schools Foundation for Excellence will once again be holding its Tuition Expedition, a 50/50 raffle for post-secondary school funds.
“Tuition Expedition 2011 is not just any raffle to raise funds. It gives us the opportunity to support what is most important to us here at Walled Lake Schools — a lifetime of education,” said Sandy Richards, executive director for the Foundation for Excellence. “This fundraiser is a ‘win-win’ for everyone. Someone will not only win scholarship funds, but the foundation will benefit from the other half of the proceeds to continue awarding mini-grants to our teachers.”
Over the past four years, the foundation has granted $280,000 to support programs or equipment for technology, literacy, leadership, and the community.
Also, this year’s sponsor, the Walled Lake School Employees Federal Credit Union, will be sponsoring two free raffle ticket giveaways each month until the grand prize drawing on March 5 at the district’s Parenting Fair event held at Walled Lake Northern High School. The winner doesn’t have to be present to win.
The winner will have the option to have his or her scholarship funds paid directly to any U.S. “eligible educational institution” as defined by the IRS, or to choose cash equal to 40 percent of the total ticket proceeds in one lump sum.
Tickets are priced at $100 each, and only 500 tickets will be sold. Tickets are purchased on a “first-come, first-serve basis.” Purchasers must be U.S. residents who are at least 18 years of age.
