Walled Lake Northern overcame a 29-21 halftime deficit to defeat Waterford Mott at home, 61-53, on Friday, Jan. 28.
The Knights (5-7 overall, 3-3 in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association North Division) had a season-high 18 steals in the second half and outscored the Corsairs 23-9 in the third quarter to help complete the comeback.
Kevin Piper led Northern with 13 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Kirk Thomas and Jared Sheena each had 9 points and 3 steals. Patrick Mulligan also scored 8 points, while Ryan Soulet recorded 8 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
Chris Dewberry had 25 points to lead Mott (6-6 overall, 3-3 in the KLAA North).
The Knights began the week by traveling to Grand Blanc for a KLAA crossover game on Tuesday, Jan. 25, and fell 55-53. Northern trailed by 9 after the third quarter, but came back to tie the game at 51-51 with just under 2 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
However, the Bobcats were able to pull out the victory in the end, as a last-second, 3-point attempt by Northern that would have won the game bounced off the rim as time expired.
Northern was led by the hot shooting of Gage Throgmorton’s 5-for-10 three-point shooting for a 15-point night. Jared Sheena ended the night with 10 points and 3 assists, and Ryan Soulet contributed 8 points, while Garret Chandler added 10 rebounds and 2 assists.
Meanwhile, Mott won its KLAA crossover game, 58-52, at Howell on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
