Waterford Kettering had only one game last week, but made it count as the Captains defeated Walled Lake Central, 9-1, at Lakeland Ice Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 26.
Taylor Gilliland and Nick Murphy each had three goals and two assists for Kettering (11-3-3 overall, 5-3-1 in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association North Division), while Drew Carnes, Austin Carpenter and Justin Haley each scored a goal. Zach Zimmerman and Alex Grix each had three assists and Tucker Gilliland made 10 saves to get the win in goal for the Captains. Ryan Doroshenko had two assists, while Kyle Soncrainte, Brandon Lopez, and Shannon McFadden each had one assist.
Jarrett Lazare scored the only goal for the Vikings (5-10-1 overall, 3-6-1 in the KLAA North), as he was set up by Ian Farquhar.
The Vikings were able to rebound on Friday, Jan. 28 by defeating Walled Lake Northern 6-2 to win the Medevil Cup.
Sophomore forward Eric Rosteck scored two goals for the Vikings, while Farquhar, Jarett Lazare, Riley Dunning and Adam Dennis each scored a goal. Steve Kobliska had 24 saves in net for Central, which will travel to face South Lyon on Thursday, Feb. 3 before hosting the Summit Academy on Saturday, Feb. 5 at Lakeland Ice Arena.
The Captains’ Wednesday, Feb. 2 game against rival Waterford Mott has been moved to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5 due to inclement weather.
