Kettering 'D' leads way in 53-28 win over Western

Waterford Kettering improved to 7-5 overall and 3-3 in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA) North Division with a 53-28 victory over Walled Lake Western at home on Friday, Jan. 28.

The Captains jumped out to a 20-8 halftime lead and outscored Western 15-4 in the fourth quarter.

“We controlled them again in the second half on defense and were able to handle their full court pressure to keep and extend the lead,” said Kettering Head Coach Brian Tass. “I credit our entire team for having confidence and fighting through a few losses to play well again.”

Maurice Scott led Kettering with 11 points, while Brett Hoffman had 10. Devin Reed and Cameron Vieux each had 6 points for Western (3-9 overall, 1-5 in the KLAA North).

Prior to the win, Kettering fell to Brighton, 79-46, in a KLAA crossover game.

“Brighton got out to an early lead thanks to some hot shooting and fast guard play,” Tass said. “We struggled to score offensively in the first half and didn’t rebound well. Brighton was just a better team, though I credit our guys for not giving up.”

Meanwhile, Western fell at Pinckney, 66-16, on Tuesday, Jan. 25.

The Warriors played at Waterford Mott on Tuesday, Feb. 1 after press time, and will host Walled Lake Central on Friday, Feb. 4.
