Corsairs earn bragging rights over Captains

In a key Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA) North Division contest between bitter rivals, Waterford Mott defeated Waterford Kettering 6-4 on Saturday, Jan. 22 at Lakeland Ice Arena.

The score was tied at 1-1 at the end of the first period and tied at 2-2 at the end of the second period. Mott scored 4 goals in the third period to score the victory over the rival Captains.

Colin Larkin had 4 goals and 2 assists for Mott, while JD Clemence and Max Vancil each had a goal and an assist.

Myles Grix made 8 saves in net for Mott, while Jon Furton made 4 saves.

Mott also outshot Kettering 26-16.

With the win, Mott improved to 12-2 and is undefeated in the KLAA North at 7-0 with 12 points, three points ahead of second-place Kettering (10-3-3, 4-3-1, 9 points).

Kettering also defeated Grand Blanc 4-2 on Wednesday, Jan. 19.

Mott played at Howell on Monday, Jan. 24 after press time and will play at Pinckney on Thursday, Jan. 27 before taking on Walled Lake Western at Lakeland Ice Arena on Saturday, Jan. 29.

Kettering will take on Walled Lake Central tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 26 at Lakeland Ice Arena.
Both Mott and Kettering will meet again on Wednesday, Feb. 2.
