Lakers, Our Lady, Central tally wins; Eaglets fall to 3-3

West Bloomfield notched two victories last week to improve to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the Oakland Activities Association (OAA) Red Division.

The Lakers began the week with a 50-34 victory at Redford Union on Tuesday, Jan. 11, thanks to 16 points from Spencer Parker.

They then defeated Oak Park, 61-40, on the road on Thursday, Jan. 13 with Nick Leventis scoring 21 points and Parker scoring 16.

The Lakers hosted Southfield on Tuesday, Jan. 18 after press time and will play at Pontiac on Friday, Jan. 21.

Orchard Lake St. Mary’s fell at Warren De La Salle, 58-44, on Friday, Jan. 14.

St. Mary’s (3-3 overall, 1-1 Catholic League Central) trailed 32-20 at halftime and couldn’t draw close in the end.

Allen Robinson led the Eaglets with 18 points while Daniel Furlong had 10 points.

Conner Tava scored 18 points for the Pilots (9-0, 3-0).

The Eaglets hosted Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard on Monday, Jan. 17 after press time in a game that was postponed from Tuesday, Jan. 11.

St. Mary’s will next welcome Detroit Plymouth Prep tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 19 before playing at Novi Detroit Catholic Central on Friday, Jan. 21.

Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes picked up two wins this past week to move to 6-3 and 6-1 in the Detroit Catholic League Intersectional Division.

Our Lady began the week with a 68-64 overtime victory at Detroit Cristo Rey on Tuesday, Jan. 11.

The Lakers led 40-30 at the end of the third quarter, but Cristo Rey outscored Our Lady 28-18 in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

However, Our Lady went on a 10-6 run in the extra session by shooting 8-of-10 from the free-throw line.

Garrett Ross had 26 points and 10 rebounds for Our Lady while Austin Karbowski had 22 points.

Our Lady then returned home on Friday, Jan. 14 to host Everest Collegiate and the Lakers netted a 47-40 victory.

The Lakers trailed 19-18 at halftime but took control with a 17-8 run in the third quarter.

Ross had 26 points for Our Lady while Karbowski had 11.

“(Everest) is very comparable to us at every position. It’s like a mirror image and you’re playing against yourself,” Our Lady Head Coach Sean Wightman said.

Our Lady will host the Frankel Jewish Academy (West Bloomfield) on Thursday, Jan. 20.

Walled Lake Central defeated rival Walled Lake Western at home, 59-46 on Friday, Jan. 14 to move into a tie with Waterford Kettering atop the Kensington Lakes Activities Association North Division at 3-0.

Adam Coric led Central (6-2, 3-0) with 25 points, including six 3-pointers, while Will Griffin had 14 points for Western (2-6, 0-3).

Central also defeated Walled Lake Northern, 60-53, at home on Tuesday, Jan. 11 as Hayden Coe had 19 points for the Vikings, followed by Louis Nelson with 18.

Meanwhile, Western fell at home to Waterford Mott, 64-38, on Jan. 11 as Kyle Craig led Western with 13 points.

Central played at Mott on Tuesday, Jan. 18 after press time while Western played at Huron Valley Lakeland. The Vikings will travel to Waterford Kettering on Friday, Jan. 21 while Western will host Walled Lake Northern.
